A Poem by John Bunyan

Annmarie and I were listening to a sermon by Dr. John Piper this evening, and he mentioned a wonderful poem by John Bunyan. Annmarie and I absolutely loved it, so I thought I’d share it here.

“Run, John, run, the law commands,

But gives us neither feet nor hands.

Far better news the Gospel brings;

It bids us fly and gives us wings.”

The sermon was on 1 Peter 2:1-3, by the way.

Random Thought

My wife and I were talking this morning, and a thought occurred to us. Do babies sin in the womb? Scripture says that we are conceived in sin; David tells us this in Psalm 51. My wife asked, can you be a sinner and have not sinned? Obviously you will sin, but if you haven’t sinned yet… Is sinner a term for who you are or what you do? After the Lord calls a person and saves them, imparting His Holy Spirit, they are still called a sinner. In fact, Paul calls himself in 1 Ti 1:15 the worst sinner of all. And he is specifically referring to his salvation here. If a child is a sinner in the womb, how do they sin? If they aren’t a sinner in the womb, wouldn’t that mean their sin nature would be imparted at birth? If that is the case, why would it be this way? Mind-boggling. My head is already starting to hurt.

I’ll have to study the Scriptures more on this one. Stay tuned for updates, unless I have to punt the whole issue and not worry about it. (See what can happen when you and your wife are idly talking about their child during cuddle time?)

New Image Header

Ok, so I’ve updated the image header above with a much cooler one. It’s a picture of the Sea of Galilee. I found it on flickr.com. It was available for download under the Creative Commons License found here.

I’m trying to come up with some ideas of what to post, so if anyone has actually managed to stumble across this blog: stay tuned.

Review of “Fireproof”

Fireproof is the new movie from Sherwood Pictures (of Facing the Giants fame). These guys once again have delivered a wonderful movie with a biblical message. The Gospel is very prominent, and the production quality is good. It stars Kirk Cameron as the lead character, a firefighter whose marriage is falling apart. Mr. Cameron delivers an excellent performance. In the first half of the movie, we see an unworthy man demanding the respect of his wife. By the end of the movie, we see a broken, caring man who has received God’s grace and is seeking to reconcile his relationship to his wife.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

First Post

So, what’s with the title?

  • Morgan is of Celtic origin and has something to do with the sea.
  • I am being sanctified by God as He conforms me to the image of my Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • Christ taught by the Sea of Galilee.

It works on more than one level; I like that. :)
