My wife and I were talking this morning, and a thought occurred to us. Do babies sin in the womb? Scripture says that we are conceived in sin; David tells us this in Psalm 51. My wife asked, can you be a sinner and have not sinned? Obviously you will sin, but if you haven’t sinned yet… Is sinner a term for who you are or what you do? After the Lord calls a person and saves them, imparting His Holy Spirit, they are still called a sinner. In fact, Paul calls himself in 1 Ti 1:15 the worst sinner of all. And he is specifically referring to his salvation here. If a child is a sinner in the womb, how do they sin? If they aren’t a sinner in the womb, wouldn’t that mean their sin nature would be imparted at birth? If that is the case, why would it be this way? Mind-boggling. My head is already starting to hurt.
I’ll have to study the Scriptures more on this one. Stay tuned for updates, unless I have to punt the whole issue and not worry about it. (See what can happen when you and your wife are idly talking about their child during cuddle time?)
Do you want us to give you our responses and thoughts on this subject?
I have to say, this is an interesting idea, I’ve never thought about this.
